Knauf Danogips in Åhus is transitioning its production to renewable energy.

From gas burners to powder firing.

German Knauf group GmbH is one of the largest players in the global construction material market They primarily manufacture gypsum, lime, and cement products as well as components for thermal insulation.

Their facility, Knauf Danogips, in Åhus has signed a delivery agreement with the Swies Group for the conversion from existing gas burners to powder firing. The facility, which produces gypsum boards, currently consists of five gas burners. Two of these five existing gas burners will be replaced with multi-fuel burners capable of running on both gas and wood powder.

In Swies’ delivery, in addition to two multi-fuel burners (5.5+6.5 MW), storage of pellets in 2 silos, grinding, screening, and dosing of powder, powder bins, combustion chambers, control and monitoring systems, as well as other necessary process equipment are included. Our commitment also includes necessary construction and electrical installation work.

With this investment, Knauf Danogips will halve its consumption of fossil fuels.

The necessary construction work will be carried out during the autumn, and machine installations will commence after the turn of the year. The facility will undergo cold and trial runs in July 2023 and be ready for operation in August.

The entire project is being carried out in close collaboration with, among others, Mafa (silos), Sentech AB (mill/screen), MSM-May (burners), and Macon (combustion chambers).
